BRENTWOOD, Tenn. –
Seth Benes has been named Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week following his dominant performance in Lindenwood's 6-0 win over St. Thomas on Saturday. He becomes the first LU baseball player to take home an OVC weekly award this season.
Benes was nearly untouchable in the Lions' shutout win, tossing seven complete scoreless innings while surrendering just three hits and one walk for a WHIP of 0.57. He displayed a high level of command through the entire outing, delivering nearly 70% of his pitches for strikes while recording seven punch outs.
Benes is now 2-0 this season with a pair of combined shutouts, allowing zero runs through a conference-high 14.0 innings pitched.
A transfer from Indiana, Benes has quickly established himself as a key piece to a Lindenwood pitching staff that leads the Ohio Valley Conference with a 2.93 ERA through the first two weeks of the season.
The Lions continue their early season homestand this weekend with a four-game series against Northern Illinois at Lou Brock Sports Complex. Game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27th.
