The two teams traded goals with Lindenwood regaining the lead at the 10:17 mark of the first as Luci Selander found the back of the net. Selander went on a personal 3-0 run to give the Lions a 4-2 lead before CMU tied the game at four apiece with 2:10 to go in the first. Selander would give the Black and Gold the lead once again, and Tatum Bryant found the back of the net before the end of the quarter and Lindenwood led 6-4 after one.

Two quick goals in the second, coming from DiGiacinto and Reese Krieger extended the Lindenwood lead to 8-4. After a Chippewa goal, Krieger scored again, making the score 9-5. The Lions doubled up CMU with a goal from Elise Fawcett off a feed from Krieger, growing the lead to 10-5. Lindenwood led 10-6 at the break.

The Chippewas scored the next two goals, but DiGiacinto answered, giving the Lions a 16-11 lead after three.
