BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the third time in four weeks, a Lindenwood Lion has been named Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week. This time
Josh Newell takes home the honor following his dominant performance on the mound in Lindenwood's victory over Murray State on Friday.
Newell had everything working in the series opener, tossing eight shutout innings in the 4-0 win. He allowed just two hits and no walks while adding five strikeouts. After giving up a base hit in the first frame, Newell was perfect for the next six and two-third innings, not surrendering another base runner until the top of the eighth.
The win moved Newell's record this season to 3-1. He has an ERA of 2.45 and is second on the team with 19 strikeouts through 29.1 innings pitched.
Newell has now been named conference Pitcher of the Week six times during his career, including four times last season. He joins teammates
Seth Benes and
Aaron Jungers as 2026 Pitcher of the Week honorees.
Lindenwood hosts Eastern Illinois this weekend to begin OVC play. Game one is scheduled for Friday, March 20th at 3:00 p.m.
