The first ever NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships take place this weekend in Coralville, Iowa, with Jacinda Espinosa set to represent Lindenwood at the historic event. Espinosa will compete as the No. 5 seed at 138 lbs. following a runner-up finish at regionals. She will square off with York College's (PA) Maura White in the opening round.

Last Time Out
Espinosa took second place at the NCAA Region VI tournament two weeks ago. After entering the regional as the No. 2 seed in her weight class, she clinched a spot in the national tournament field with a win over Peyton Hellman of Fort Hays State in the semifinals. After falling behind 6-0, the nationally ranked freshman climbed back to take a 12-10 lead before pinning Hellman at the bout's 5:51 mark.

  • Espinosa enters the championships with an overall record of 31-8, leading Lindenwood in wins during the season.
  • 31 of her 14 wins were falls, which was second most among LU wrestlers.
  • She also took seven matches by technical fall and seven by decision.
  • Espinosa won a total of 124 team points this season, which was a team high.

  • Espinosa was ranked fifth nationally at 138 in the latest NWCA individual rankings released on February 12th.
  • She was ranked second in Region VI.

Top Finishes
Prior to her runner-up finish at Regionals, Espinosa took first place in the Luther Hill Invitational and Lindsey Wilson Open, placed fourth at the Missouri Valley Open, finished sixth at the North Central Invitational, and claimed second place at the MBU Open.
