On Tuesday morning, the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced that Sophomore Middle Blocker
Amir Grant has been named the MIVA Defensive Player Of the Week. Grant, a 6'5 native of Los Angeles, CA. had 11 blocks across eight sets played and helped the Lions pick up two big wins over Northern Kentucky and Ohio State to end MIVA play with a record of 11-5 and earned the number three seed in the MIVA tournament.
In Thursday's three set win over NKU, Grant had a team-high four blocks with two solo blocks and two block assists and averaged 1.3 blocks per set. The Middle Blocker followed that performance with a career-high seven blocks in the five set come from behind victory over the Buckeyes on Saturday afternoon, with one solo block and six block assists to average 1.4 blocks per set. For the entire week, Grant averaged 1.38 blocks per set and added one dig on a 1.000% reception percentage. He leads the 2026 squad in blocks with 70, and ranks eighth overall in the MIVA in that same category. During conference play, Grant has 44 blocks in 54 sets played which ranks fourth best in the MIVA.
Grant and the Lions will now prepare for the MIVA conference tournament which is set to begin on Saturday, April 18. Lindenwood will host the six seed Lewis in Hyland Arena with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
