Baseball Hosts OVC-Leading Little Rock This Weekend

The Lions have won seven straight in OVC play

LEADING OFF

The Lindenwood baseball team puts their eight-game win streak to the test this weekend as they welcome Little Rock to St. Charles for another pivotal OVC series. The Trojans currently sit atop the conference standings while the Lions are in sole possession of fifth. Game one gets underway at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

NOTES TO KNOW
  • Lindenwood has an overall record of 22-18 with an 8-7 mark in OVC play. The Lions possess the longest active overall win streak (8) and conference win streak (7) in the OVC.
  • Lindenwood is batting .259 as a team this season with a .319 average during their current win streak.  They're batting .280 in OVC play this season.
  • Jake Radosevich is batting a team-best .308 and paces the club with 33 RBIs and eight homers. He is currently enjoying a team-long 19-game reached base streak.
  • Charlie Isom-McCall and Will Geary are tied for the team lead in multi-hit games (14) and stolen bases (19).
  • Geary has reached base in 12 consecutive games and is batting .396 with four doubles, two triples and six RBIs during the month of April.
  • Sam Driscoll has been on a tear recently, batting .538 (14-26) with two doubles, two triples, three homers, 10 RBIs, and 13 runs scored over the last seven games.
  • The Lions have a staff ERA of 4.20, which is lowest in the OVC and 28th best in the nation. They are limiting their opponents to a .267 batting average, which is third lowest in the conference.
  • Seth Benes leads the OVC with a 2.35 ERA. He has a 4-3 record with a team-leading 53 strikeouts through 61.1 innings pitched and is limiting opponents to a .191 batting average, which is second lowest in the conference.
  • Josh Newell follows Benes with a 2.42 ERA. He leads the team in wins with a 6-3 record and has tossed a conference-leading 67.0 innings.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS
  • Little Rock enters this weekend with an overall record of 25-17 and sit atop the OVC standings with a conference record of 11-4. The Trojans have won five straight after sweeping EIU last weekend and beating UTRGV twice this week.
  • LR is batting .294 as a team this season, which is tied for fifth in the OVC. The offense is led by Kade Smith with a .348 batting average. He also leads the club in total hits (54) and RBIs (36).
  • The Little Rock pitching staff has a 5.21 ERA, which is third best in OVC. They have the second most strikeouts in the league (325) and are holding opponents to a conference-low .252 batting average.
  • Brannon Westmoreland is 4-1 this season with a team-best 3.36 ERA. He leads the squad with 59.0 innings pitched and 44 strikeouts. His .241 batting average against is fourth lowest in the conference.
SERIES NOTES
  • The Lions are 2-7 all-time against the Trojans with a 1-2 record in St. Charles. The two teams split a shortened two-game series in Little Rock last season before meeting again in the OVC Tournament, where the Trojans prevailed 4-1.
  • The Lions have been held to three or fewer runs in six of their previous matchups against Little Rock. Last season's 14-2 win was the most runs LU has scored in the series.
  • Filip Sarota went 6-12 with a home run, double, and five RBIs in three appearances against the Trojans last season.
  • Josh Newell gave up just one run on five hits with three strikeouts through a six-inning start in Lindenwood's win at Little Rock last season.
WEEKEND REWIND
  • Lindenwood swept Morehead State last weekend to extend their OVC win streak to seven games, which is the longest active streak in the conference.
  • Lindenwood scored 38 total runs in the series. They had previously scored no more than 12 total runs in an OVC series this season.
  • Lindenwood's 20 hits on Sunday were their most in a game since recording 22 against UT Martin on May 5, 2023.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sam Driscoll was named OVC Player of the Week after batting .727 with eight hits in 11 at-bats while scoring 10 runs in four games. He slugged 1.909 with three home runs, two doubles, and one triple, and finished the week with an OPS of 2.659. Through the final two games at MSU, Driscoll went a combined 7-8 while scoring eight runs and batting in four. He came just a base hit short of the cycle with a double, triple, and home run on Saturday before recording two home runs on Sunday.
