Baseball Hosts Tennessee Tech to Conclude Home Schedule

Lions enter the weekend fifth in the OVC standings

LEADING OFF
The Lindenwood baseball team hosts their final home games of the regular season this weekend against OVC foe Tennessee Tech. The Lions are currently fifth place in the conference standing with six league games remaining. Game one against the Golden Eagles in scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

NOTES TO KNOW
  • Lindenwood has an overall record of 26-22 with a 10-11 mark in league play. The Lions started OVC play 0-6 but have won 10 of their last 15 in-conference. They are 18-10 at home this season with a 7-5 record in conference games.
  • Lindenwood is batting .257 as a team this season, which is lowest in the OVC. They have a .261 average in conference play.
  • Will Geary leads the Lions with a .330 batting average. He is batting .358 in conference play with six doubles, one triple, and six RBIs. Geary leads the team with 24 stolen bases, which is a Lindenwood NCAA era single-season record.
  • The Lions have a staff ERA of 3.98, which is best in the OVC and 16th nationally. They are allowing just 3.15 walks per nine innings for the seventh lowest average in Division-I.
  • Seth Benes leads the OVC with an ERA of 2.28 while limiting opponents to a .193 batting average. He leads the club with 67 strikeouts, which is second most in the conference.
  • Josh Newell is right behind Benes with a 2.39 ERA through a conference-leading 83.0 innings pitched. He has 50 strikeouts compared to just 10 walks.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
  • Tennessee Tech is 17-32 overall with a 5-16 OVC record after dropping two of three at Southern Indiana over the weekend.
  • The Golden Eagles are batting .273 this season with 60 home runs.
  • The TTU lineup features one of the OVC's most dangerous bats in Jorsixt Jiminez, who is batting .407 with 19 homers and 66 RBIs.
  • Tech has a staff ERA of 8.64 with an 11.80 ERA away from home. Jaxson Pease leads the Golden Eagles with five wins and has a team-best 5.64 ERA. He is second on the team with 40 strikeouts.
SERIES NOTES
  • Lindenwood is 5-5 all-time against Tennessee Tech with a 1-2 record at home.
  • The Lions took one of two in Cookeville last season before defeating the Golden Eagles 9-1 at the OVC Tournament. Ethan Smith gave up just one run on six hits with six strikeouts in the win.
  • LU has given up three or fewer runs in four of their five wins against Tech, the only exception being a 19-12 win in 2023.
  • This weekend will be the final time Lindenwood and TTU will meet as conference opponents, as the Golden Eagles depart for the Southern Conference this summer.
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Lions sed a complete team performance to defeat Saint Louis by a score of 10-1 at the Lou Brock Sports Complex on Tuesday evening.
  • Will Geary stayed hot to lead Lindenwood offensively, going 3-5 with a triple, a homer, and three RBIs. Kam Edwards and Sam Driscoll also posted multiple hits with two knocks apiece, while William Zareh and Tyler Ellis both drove in a pair of runs for multi-RBI performances.
  • It was a collective effort on the mount for Lindenwood as six Lions combined to allow just one run on eight hits with six strikeouts. Tanner Paschke (2-0) picked up his second win of the season after giving up no runs through 2.2 innings of relief work.
WEEKEND REWIND
  • Lindenwood suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of SIUE over the weekend, losing consecutive games for the first time since the end of March.
  • The Lions hit just .204 in the series, scoring a total of just two runs through the weekend's first two contests.
  • Josh Newell allowed two earned runs with seven strikeouts through eight innings in game one before Seth Benes gave up only two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts through 6.2 innings of work in game two.
  • Filip Sarota went 2-4 with a home run, double, and career-high five RBIs in the series finale, but it was not enough as the Lions fell 11-8.

Lindenwood concludes the regular season with a four-game road trip to the Hoosier State next week. The Lions will face Indiana State on Tuesday, May 12th at 5:30 p.m. CT before heading to Evansville for a three-game set at Southern Indiana to finish OVC play. Game one against the Screaming Eagles is set for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14th.
