Women's Volleyball Goes 2-2 Over the Weekend

The No. 22 Lindenwood volleyball team finished 2-2 at the Olivet Nazarene tournament this past weekend. On Friday, the Lions won a pair of matches against Indiana Wesleyan and No. 16 Dordt (Ind.), before falling to ranked opponents Georgetown (Ky.) and host Olivet Nazarene on Saturday.

The Lions entered the tournament losers of their last two but responded with a three game sweep of Indiana Wesleyan, 25-23, 25-22, 25-15 in the opening match. Ellen Fandry paced the Lions with 14 kills. Alyssa Showers recorded her third consecutive match of 20 or more digs with 21. Kelsey Biggs netted 25 assists and Kelsey Jo Vogler added five blocks.

In the nightcap, the Lions had three players record double-digit kills to help upset Dordt, 3-1, by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-27, 25-20. Fandry led the team in kills once again with 16. Victoria Krause had 13 and Vogler added 11. Showers recorded a season high in digs with 28. Patricia Erb tallied 14 digs, and Biggs netted a double-double with 41 assists and 18 digs. She also converted four service aces in the match. Krista Yoder had four blocks up front for the Lions.

The Lions won the first game against No. 6 Georgetown only to see the Tigers bounce back to win the next three games and the match, 3-1. Scores were as follows: 25-19, 17-25, 13-25, 24-26. Fandry recorded her second double-double of the year, netting 15 kills and 13 digs. Erb led the team with 18 digs and Showers had 15. Biggs netted her second straight double-double with 32 assists and 14 digs. Yoder added five blocks.

Tournament host Olivet Nazarene swept Lindenwood to conclude the weekend. It was the third consecutive match against a ranked opponent for the Lions. The No. 17 Tigers won by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-21. Fandry tallied seven kills to lead the Lions. Biggs recorded another double-double with 21 assists and 19 digs. Showers added 10 digs of her own and Erb converted three service aces.

Ellen Fandry, who led the team in kills throughout the tournament, joined teammate Victoria Krause on the All-Tournament team.

Lindenwood is just 2-5 against opponents currently ranked in the NAIA Top 25 poll.

The Lions (12-6, 1-0) will travel to Central Methodist this upcoming Tuesday. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
