The 14th ranked Lindenwood volleyball team went 2-2 at the Columbia College Tournament this past weekend. The Lions picked up wins against Missouri Baptist and Bryan College (Tenn.) on Friday evening before dropping two against Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) and 6th ranked Columbia College on Saturday.
Lindenwood took the first two games from Missouri Baptist, only to lose the third and bounce back in the fourth to defeat the Spartans, 3-1, by scores of 25-19, 25-20, 27-29, 25-15.
Ellen Fandry paced the team with 16 kills.
Victoria Krause tallied 13 kills and
Krista Yoder added 12.
Patricia Erb recorded 14 digs and
Alyssa Showers had 10 from her libero position.
Kelsey Biggs led the team with 40 assists and four service aces.
Kelsey Jo Vogler and Yoder each had three blocks up front.
The Lions swept Bryan College (Ga.), 3-0, winning 27-25, 25-23, 25-20. Yoder led the Lions' attack with 14 kills. Erb contributed 10 digs and Showers had nine. Biggs recorded 30 assists. Erb netted converted service aces and Yoder had three blocks once again.
Lindenwood had to battle back to force a fifth set against Savannah College of Art and Design, only to lose the decisive game and the match, 3-2. It was the first defeat on the year for the Lions. The scores were 22-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-20, 14-16. Yoder led the attack with 15 kills. Fandry added 13 and Krause recorded 10 of her own. Showers provided the team with 14 digs and Biggs tallied 48 assists for the match. Krause and Vogler had 3 blocks apiece.
In a matchup of ranked teams, the Columbia Cougars had their way with the Lions, sweeping Lindenwood, 3-0. The scores were 13-25, 16-25, 22-25. The Lions have now dropped four straight matches to Columbia dating back to the start of last season. Krause totaled six kills and Fandry had five. She also added 11 digs. Vogler was impressive up front, blocking seven shots. Biggs, once again, led the team in assists, with 21. In eight matches this year, Biggs has led the team in assists each time out.

The No. 14 Lions (6-2) will have to regroup quickly, as they return to St. Charles for the home opener against Culver-Stockton this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Lindenwood defeated the Wildcats, 3-1, last weekend at the HAAC Preseason tournament.
