Storyline
For the second consecutive weekend the Lions will take on a nationally ranked team. This week it is the No. 11 Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs. The Lions are looking to improve on their 8-2 start and this weekend's games will be the final four games of the team's long road portion of the schedule.
The team is coming off winning just one game in Lubbock, Texas against the No. 1 team in the country. This weekend's games will be the third time the team has taken on a ranked team.
Last Week's Results
Last weekend the Lions took their perfect record on the road to face the No.1 ranked and defending national champions, Lubbock Christian. The series started off well for the Lions winning the first games, 11-7.
Shelby Anderson was the story hitting a pair of homeruns. It was his second two homerun game of the season.
Zach Malawey started on the hill and went 5 2/3 to get his third win of the season.
Game two didn't go as well for the Lions as Lubbock jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and would go on and hand the Lions their first loss of the season, 5-1.
Evan Vinyard started and went five innings, striking out three.
On Sunday the teams were set to play a doubleheader but due to weather conditions it was changed to a single game. The final game of the season was all Lubbock. Lindenwood could only muster three hits and they also committed three errors in the field.
Bryant Hollingsworth started and only lasted three innings.
Rankings
The 2009 season ended with the Lions being ranked 15th and at the start of the 2010 season they are ranked 12th which is the highest of any HAAC school.
Cashing In
When the team has gotten a runner on third base with less than two outs, they have driven that man in, 66 percent (21-for-32) of the time.
Road Warriors
The Lions begin their season with a long 15 game road trip away from the Lou Brock Sports Complex. The road has been kind so far for the team as they have began 8-2. During the 2009 campaign road games were very friendly to the Lions. The team would go 27-4 which was the best road record in the conference and one of the best in the country.
Starting Off Well
Getting off to a good start has been key for the Lions this season. In four doubleheaders this season the team has won every game one.
Ranked Opponents
Again this weekend the Lions will take on a ranked opponent. This time it will the No. 11 ranked team. In 2010 the team is 3-2 against opponents in the top 25.
Goin' Deep
Homeruns have come in bunches for the squad this season. The team has hit a total of ten homeruns compared to their opponent's four. Four times this season the team has hit more than one long ball.
Piling Up The Ks
In the first ten games this season, the Lion pitching staff has already struck out 72 hitters which ranks them fourth in the country. Four times in the Lions' first 10 games the pitching staff has struck out a dozen.
Going The Distance
Already this season the team has two complete games. Zach Malwey and
Evan Vinyard each have a complete game. A year ago the Lions compiled nine complete games.
Shutting Down The Opp.
Through ten games this season the Lindenwood pitching staff has been dominating. Opponents are hitting just .208 on the season. The pitching staff has also only surrendered four homeruns compared to Lions, 10.
Anderson On Fire
Shelby Anderson has begun the 2010 campaign on fire. The junior from Quincy, Illinois is leading the country in homeruns with six and has already had two games where he has hit two. Not only is he leading the country in homeruns he is ranked fourth in total bases (29) and eighth in RBIs (14.)
Streaking
Five different hitters are currently on hitting streaks of at least four.
Shelby Anderson,
Dylan Lowery, and Ryan Farris all have five game streaks, while
Carlos Pianetta and
Dan Harris have hits in four straight.
Scoring First
Getting on the scoreboard first has been a key to the Lions this season. In all of the team's eight wins they have scored the first run of the game. In the squad's two losses the opponents have scored the first runs.
HAAC Champs
For the second consecutive year the Lions were the HAAC Champs. In 2009 they complied a 32-8 conference record and also won four straight games in the conference tournament to be crowned the tourney champs.
Scouting The Bulldogs
Tennessee Wesleyan has compiled a record of 4-2 in the early portion of their schedule. After losing the first two games of the season to Auburn Montgomery, the Bulldogs have rolled off four straight wins.
The Bulldogs pitching staff has been the strong suit for the team. Opponents are hitting only .208 against Tennessee Wesleyan pitchers, which is good for eighth in the country.
Leading the way at the plate for the Bulldogs is C.J. McElroy who is hitting .429. Cody Gaskill is leading the team with six RBIs and is also hitting .313.
Billy Berry begins his fifth year as head baseball coach at Tennessee Wesleyan. Under Berry's direction, the bulldogs have an overall record of 169-63, posting a conference record of 71-10 during his four years.

After playing their first 14 games on the road the Lions will finally be home for a series against Indiana University Southeast.
