Lindenwood Baseball Wins One on the Road

This weekend the Lindenwood baseball team was on the road at Tennessee Wesleyan and finished the four game trip, 1-3. The Bulldogs would sweep the first doubleheader on Friday and the teams would split a pair of games on Saturday.

Game one looked like it was going to be all Lindenwood. The Lions would score two runs in the opening inning and then three more in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Move to the bottom of the fourth and the Bulldogs roared back with a five run inning to tie the score. The top of the seventh started with Shelby Anderson drawing a walk. Dan McCarthy would pinch run for Anderson and would steal second base and then would get to third on a wild throw from the catcher. After McCarthy's scamper to third Frank Corpus would deliver with a sacrifice fly to put the Lions on top.

With the lead, Lindenwood brought in their closer Joey Vega who got the leadoff hitter to ground out but then would give up a single. The next hitter would fly out to right field and the Lions looked like they were on their way to another win. But Vega would walk the next hitter and then go to a 2-0 count against Brad Pippa. The Lions would make a pitching change and bring in Andy Otto. On his second pitch, Pippa deposited it over the left field wall to give the Bulldogs the 8-6 win.

Game two started out much of the same as game one with the Lions jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. But after the Bulldogs tied the game in the fifth it was déjà vu. With the teams tied at three in the bottom of the seventh, Cody Gaskill would hit another walk off three run homerun to give Tennessee Wesleyan the doubleheader sweep.

After a rough first two games of the series for the Lions, tthey came right back with a win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, 3-2. Tennessee Wesleyan would score the first run of the game but the Lions would tie the score with a run in the fourth inning and then take the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth. The Bulldogs would cut the lead to one with a single tally in the sixth but starter Zach Malawey would close the door for the win. Malawey would go all seven innings while striking out nine. Anthony Dallosto led the Lions with a 2-for-3 day including a homerun.

The final game of the series would go to the Bulldogs, 7-1. Lindenwood would take the lead with a run in the second inning but from then on it was all Tennessee Wesleyan. Randy Serrato started and went six, surrendering five earned runs on 10 hits. Dylan Lowery drove in the Lions only run of the day.
