Lions Sweep Four Game Series

Finally, the Lindenwood baseball team played games in Missouri, after 14 games on the road to start the season. Indiana University Southeast came to the Lou Brock Sports Complex over the weekend and the Lions swept all four games. The opening doubleheader saw the Lions win 9-6 and 7-3. In the final two games of the weekend Lindenwood won 5-2 and 4-2.

It was a rough start for the Lions in game one when the Grenaiders scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Even though the home team was trailing by five, they never surrendered.
Lindenwood would cut into the lead in the third inning when Cody Anderson tripled into the left field gap, driving in two runs to cut the lead to three. With Anderson on the third, Anthony Dallosto would connect on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead down even more.

With the Lions trailing by two in the bottom of the fifth, Frank Corpus and Dallosto would each drive in a run with singles to tie the score. Later in the inning Lindenwood would load the bases for power hitting Shelby Anderson. Grenadiers hurler, Brandon Clemmons, would uncork a wild pitch to give the Lions the lead.
After Lions' starter Zach Malawey could only complete one inning, Randy Serrato came into the game to give the Lions 5 1/3 innings in relief for the win.
In game two the Lions would jump out to an early 3-0 lead after a three run bottom of the first, capped off by a Carlos Pianetta two run double. Indiana Southeast would tie the score at three with a single tally in the second and two in the third.

With the game tied Lindenwood would come right back in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs to take the lead for good. The home team would add one more run in bottom of the sixth to sweep the doubleheader.

In the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday the Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with help from a Mike Gumm lead-off triple. The Greandiers would tie the score in the top of the fifth but the Lions would come right back in the bottom half of the inning and score two runs to take the lead. Lindenwood would add an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth and would hold on for the, 5-2 win.

Daniel Sandello started game three of the series and went five innings giving up just three hits and two runs for his first win of the season.

The series finale saw the Lions jump to an early 3-0 lead after two innings. Indiana Southeast would cut the lead to one in the fifth but wouldn't get any closer as the Lions would hold on for the win and sweep the four game series.

Freshman Andy Tretter started on the hill and got his first win of the season. Cody Anderson led the way at the plate going 3-for-3 with a RBI.

With the four game sweep of Indiana Southeast the Lions improved their record to 13-5.
