For the first time in 2010 the Lindenwood baseball team took on a HAAC foe. The Saturday afternoon doubleheader ended with the Lions losing both games to Benedictine, 4-3 and 1-0.
Game one started with Benedictine jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. The Lions did not go away, cutting into the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs. With Lindenwood trailing by a single tally in the bottom of the sixth Shelby Anderson connected on a long homerun to tie the score at three.
With the game tied at three in the top of the seventh Benedictine was able to scoot across a run to give them a 4-3, which they would hold onto for the win.
Chris Johnson made his season debut on the hill for the Lions throwing 3 2/3 innings surrendering just three hits and two runs.
The second game of the day was a 1-0 win for the visiting team. Lindenwood could not get anything going at the plate only compiling just five hits. Evan Vinyard started on the hill for Lindenwood and gave up just one run on six hits.
There will be no rest for the Lions as they will be back in action on Sunday against Harris-Stowe University. First pitch at the Lou Brock Sports Complex on Sunday will be at 1:00 p.m..
