Storyline
The 2010 season is getting close to the end and the Lindenwood Lion baseball team has only nine games remaining. After playing the last month inside the conference the Lions will travel outside the conference to take on the St. Ambrose Bees. Lindenwood comes into the game with a four game winning streak and will look to reach the 35 win plateau. St. Ambrose comes into the game with a 8-20 record and have lost its last 10 out of 12 games.
Last Week's Results
With the regular season winding down the Lindenwood Lions are trying to position themselves for the HAAC postseason tournament. This past weekend at Fayette, Missouri will go a long way. The Lions swept all four weekend games against the Central Methodist Eagles.
In the opening game of the series the Lions jumped out to an early lead scoring a pair of runs in the first inning. They would add a run in the second and two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Central Methodist would score two runs in the bottom of the third and that is all it could muster on the day.
Zach Malawey would do the rest for the Lions on the hill pitching six innings in the, 12-2 win. Malawey gave up just two runs on seven hits while striking out seven in the win.
The second game of the day was a wild affair that took nine innings to complete, had 32 combined runs scored, 35 combined hits and seven total errors. Lindenwood would win the game 18-14 but it wasn't easy.
The first game on Sunday started with the Lions scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take the lead. Lindenwood would score another pair of runs in the fourth to jump out to a 5-0 lead. The Eagles would bring across a single run in the bottom of the fifth, which was their only run. In the sixth the Lions would bring across the final two runs of the game and would win it, 7-1.
In the series finale the two teams would trade two run innings in the second before the Lions would take the lead in the third with a three run inning. With the Lions leading 5-2, Central Methodist would scamper across three runs to tie the score.
It didn't take the visitors long to regain the lead as the Lions would bring across three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead, 8-5. The Lion offense would score three insurance runs in the top of the seventh and they would hold on to the 11-6 win.
Shelby The Leader
Shelby Anderson has been an offensive threat all year and continues to the lead the Lions in numerous categories. The junior from Quincy, Illinois is number one on the team in home runs (10), RBIs (39), batting average (.365), games played (45), at-bats (137), hits (50) and total bases (90).
Longballs = Wins

Cashing In
When the Lions have had runners on third base and less than two outs the team has scored the runner 60% of the time. Not only is the offense been good with runners on third but when they load the bases the team is hitting .343.
Going The Distance
This season the team has nine complete games.
Zach Malawey leads the team with four, while
Evan Vinyard,
Randy Serrato each have two and
Andy Tretter's has one. A year ago the Lions compiled nine complete games.
Scoring Early
Scoring in the first inning has been very productive for the Lions this season. When the team scores in the first inning the team is 13-2. They have out-scored their opponents 27-11 in first innings.
Hot At The Dish
Five out of the Lions' nine regular starters are hitting over .300 this season with
Shelby Anderson leading the way at .365. Not only are the starters hitting well the whole team is hitting .320 this season.
Dynamic Duo
The duo of starting pitchers
Evan Vinyard and
Zach Malawey are one of the best one-two punches in the conference on the hill. Vinyard leads the conference in strikeouts (81), hits allowed per nine innings (7.65), innings pitched (60), opponents batting average (.228), and wins (7). Malawey would be leading many of the same categories if it wasn't for his teammate. The junior is tied for first with Vinyard with seven wins, is in second place in strikeouts (68), innings pitched (57.2), and seventh in innings pitched.
Dominating The Second
The second inning has been the most successful frame for the squad this season. Lindenwood has outscored their opponents 23-7 in the inning.
Errorless Baseball
When the team has committed one or no errors they are 21-4. On the contrary if they commit two or more they have a record of 5-7.
Piling Up The Ks
Lindenwood pitchers have been striking out hitters at a high rate this season. As a staff they have struck out 283 which is the most in the HAAC and most in all of the country. The Lions have rung up over 60 more hitters than William Jewell who is in second place in the conference.
Dual Threats
Not only have
Randy Serrato and
Zach Malawey been strong on the hill but the two have been huge threats at the plate. Malawey is hitting .406 and has hit six home runs with 15 RBIs. Serrato, though he has not had as many at-bats, is hitting .500 (9-for-18).
