Lions Win Two Out of Three on the Road

The Lindenwood baseball team had a week off from conference play so the Lions traveled to Davenport, Iowa to take on nonconference foe, St. Ambrose. The Lions won game one on Saturday, 7-1 then the two teams split a doubleheader on Sunday. Lindenwood would win the opening game on Sunday, 3-1 and St. Ambrose won the series finale, 3-2.

Game 1

As they have all year the Lions jumped out early scoring two runs in the top of the first inning capped off by Corpus' two-run home run which scored Anderson.

After giving up a pair of runs in the top of the first, the Bees came right back in the bottom of the first and scored one run on three hits.

Both starters would settle in nicely and it wasn't until the fourth inning that either team would score a run. The Lions would lead off the fourth with an Anderson single then for the second time in the game Corpus would drive him in to give the Lions the 3-1 lead.

Lindenwood would score three more runs in the seventh inning and that is all it would need as the Lions rolled to a, 6-1 win.

Lions' starter Evan Vinyard (8-3) surrendered the first inning run to the Bees but that would be all he would allow. Vinyard who leads the Lions in numerous categories struck out seven and only gave up five hits over seven innings.

Corpus ended the day with two hits in two at-bats scoring one run and driving in three. Anderson chipped in with three hits while scoring three runs and Dylan Lowery also had two hits.

Game 2

The second game of the weekend series saw the Lions trail 1-0 early after St. Ambrose scored a single tally in the second inning. It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Lions got on the scoreboard to tie the game.

With the game tied at one Lindenwood Shelby Anderson and Frank Corpus would each drive in a run to give the visitors the lead.

Starter Zach Malawey would surrender the run in the second but would not let the Bees cross the plate again. The junior would win his eighth game of the year after throwing his fifth complete game of the season and struck out six hitters.

Game 3

After falling behind the Bees 3-0 after the first three innings in the final game of the series the Lions would go into the final inning needing three runs to tie.

Lindenwood would bring across two runs and would have the tying run at third base with two outs and Shelby Anderson at the dish. Anderson would end the game with a ground out to short. The Lions would fail to sweep the Bees after the, 3-2 loss.

Lindenwood (35-13) will travel to Canton, Mo. next weekend to take on the Culver-Stockton Wildcats in the final regular season conference series.
