Women's Lacrosse Falls in its First Appearance in the National Semifinals

The No. 2 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team saw its championship dream come to an end on Friday evening with a 7-5 setback against No. 11 Colorado State in the national semifinals.

The high-powered offense of Lindenwood struggled all evening against the Rams' defense as the Lady Lions were held to just five goals, tying for its lowest total of the season.

In the first half, Lacey Vatland was the only Lady Lion to score. She netted three goals in the period and the two teams were tied at three at halftime.

Colorado State scored the first two goals of the second half, but Lindenwood quickly tied the game around the 20 minute mark. WDIA Attacker of the Year Laura Boland had a hand in both goals. She first set Justiene Groothuis up with an assist, and then tied the game with a goal of her own.

That goal turned out to be the final one for the Lady Lions as their shots were foiled for the rest of the game. Colorado State scored the game-winner with 18:02 remaining and then added an insurance goal with less than eight minutes left on the clock.

Lindenwood falls to 21-3 on the season. The Lady Lions will face No. 9 Colorado in the third-place game on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. (pacific time). Lindenwood already owns a 15-10 victory over the Buffaloes this year.
