Women's Volleyball Finishes 2-2 at Bruin/Premier Classic

For the second time in the last two weekends, the Lindenwood volleyball squad pushed a top 10 team to the brink, but could not finish off the upset. The Lady Lions fell in five sets to No. 5 Northwestern 25-17, 24-26, 25-23, 22-25, 15-10 in their final match at the Bruin/Premier Classic.

Ellen Fandry posted her ninth double-double of the season, recording 21 kills and 17 digs. Kelsey Kennedy tallied 12 putaways and Kristy Dreisewerd had 11 kills. Alexandria Malam and Kelsey Biggs each had 24 assists apiece. Biggs converted two aces.

Alyssa Showers logged a team-high 20 digs and Patricia Erb had 13. Katie Weber recorded five blocks.

Earlier in the day, Lindenwood defeated Sioux Falls 25-23, 25-12, 20-25, 25-18.

Kennedy led the Lady Lions with 13 kills, Ellen Fandry had 11, and Katie Weber recorded her second straight match of double-digit kills with 10. Malam tallied 35 assists and Biggs had 16.

Erb led the defensive effort with 17 digs and Showers totaled 15. Fandry chipped in with 15 digs as well. Victoria Krause and Kelsey Jo Vogler both had four blocks apiece.

Lindenwood played the role of unruly guests Friday night at the Bruin/Premier Classic in Bellevue, Neb.

After dropping the opening set to host Bellevue, the Lady Lions stormed back to win three consecutive games to defeat the No. 18 Bruins 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21.

Four different Lady Lions recorded double-digit kills led by Krista Yoder's team-high 15 kills on .480 hitting. Weber posted a season-high 14 putaways and Dreisewerd finished with 11. Fandry netted her seventh double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Malam tallied 29 assists and Biggs chipped in with 26. Defensively, Showers totaled 21 digs and Erb had 14. Yoder collected a team best six blocks.

Lindenwood held the Bruins to .190 hitting percentage, and did not allow an ace after giving up six in their previous match. The win snapped Bellevue's 12 match winning streak.

Facing the first of three ranked opponents this weekend, the Lady Lions struggled in their opening match and fell to No. 21 Dordt 28-26, 25-23, 25-19.

Dreisewerd collected a team-high 10 kills on .474 hitting, and Yoder and Fandry both had nine putaways each. Malam logged 20 assists and Biggs had 17.

Erb keyed the defense with nine kills, and Weber posted five blocks.

Dordt had a 6-2 advantage in aces, and held the Lady Lions to a .207 attack percentage. The Defenders hit .276 as a unit.

Lindenwood (14-9, 2-1) will resume conference play this week when it travels to Culver-Stockton on Tuesday.
