The Lady Lions finish with a 3-1 record at the Washington University Invitational on Saturday. The women's team fell to the tournament host in the morning but would come back and defeat Fontbonne in the final match of the tournament.
The Lady Lions opened day two on Saturday falling to the Bears 25-13, 25-17, and 25-16. With this win, Washington University set a NCAA record winning 57 consecutive sets.
Lindenwood struggled in serve-receive throughout the match and were unable to hit around the Bears block. The Lady Lions began to make a comeback in the third set at 20-16 but was to no avail as Washing University came back to win 25-16. Offensively, the Lady Lions only hit .118 for the match.
Kristy Dreisewerd led Lindenwood with nine kills while
Kelsey Jo Vogler hit a team-high .714 on the match. Three other Lady Lions finished with five apiece.
Emma Brydels posted 13 assists with eight digs as
Kelsey Biggs tallied eight assists and six digs. On defense,
Kaila Schrimpf recorded a team-high of 22 digs while the Lady Lions had two blocks for the match.
In the team's final match of the tournament, Lindenwood came back in a big way dominating Fontbonne in scores of 25-10, 25-10, and 25-14. The Lady Lions never trailed during the match and led by as much as 10. Serving was the key component for Lindenwood as the team recorded 13 aces on the match.
The middle hitters led the offense with
Katie Weber posting a team-high nine kills, Taylor Holtmyer adding seven while Vogler had six. Weber also posted four aces with Holtmyer adding two.
Defensively,
Ellen Fandry came in strong and posted 10 digs with Schrimpf defending nine. Biggs posted 22 assists with eight digs and Brydels finished 12 assists.
The Lady Lions advance to 13-9 on the season and will travel to Lebanon, Ill., to play McKendree on Weds. Oct. 12.
