The No. 5 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team went 1-1 at the A-Town Throwdown in Athens, Ga. The Lady Lions lost to No. 2 UC-Davis, but defeated No. 13 Colorado State.
Lindenwood made a big comeback attempt against UC-Davis but couldn't come all the way back in a 15-13 loss. UC-Davis scored the first seven goals of the contest and led 12-5 at halftime. A one hour rain delay was finally able to cool down UC-Davis' offense, but Lindenwood was never was able to get closer than two points in the final half.
Justiene Groothuis led the offense with six goals and one assist. Kara Cashen had two goals and two assists, and Eleni Papadakos had a pair of goals. Lexi Crusha had one goal and one assist, and Kathryn St. George had one goal, two assists, and a team-high six groundballs. Christine Hehmeyer made six saves in goal.
Against Colorado State, the Lady Lions won 8-3. Lindenwood led 4-2 at half and outscored Colorado State 4-1 in the second half.
Groothuis led the offense with two goals and one assist, and Papadakos had two goals. Other scores came from Klaysa Fitzpatrick, Lindsey Brown, St. George, and Cashen. St. George also had two assists and four groundballs. Cashen added three groundballs, Crusha had an assist, and Hehmeyer had seven saves in goal.
Lindenwood improves to 8-3 on the season. The squad will next face Central Florida on Wednesday.
