Lions Continue Hot Streak Against Central Methodist

The Lindenwood baseball team continued its stellar conference play sweeping a doubleheader against the Central Methodist Eagles Saturday in St. Charles. The Lions won game one 10-0 and game two 7-5. Lindenwood has now won 11 conference games in a row.

The Lions got on the scoreboard early in game one after leadoff hitter Adam Peackock walked and was driven in by Mike Moore after he doubled to the left field wall. Moore score the Lions second run when Crispin Tarango singled between the shortstop and third baseman. Lindenwood added another run in the second inning after a bases loaded walk and took a 3-0 lead.

The home team added a pair of runs on Matt Tellor's two RBI double in the third. In the fourth, the Lions busted the game wide open with a four run frame. Lindenwood added one more run in the sixth and won the game 10-0.

Lindenwood outhit hit the Eagles 15-4 and Central Methodist committed two errors. Tarango and Tellor led the way for the Lions' offense. Tarango was two for three with three RBIs and Tellor was three for four with four RBIs. Moore and Shelby Anderson also drove in a run.

Ryan Griffin started on the hill for the Lions and won his second game of the year. He went four innings giving up just three hits, no runs, and three strikeouts.

The second game started a little rocky for the Lions. Central Methodist scored three runs in the top of the first. Lindenwood did come back in the in the bottom of the first scoring a single run to cut the lead to 3-1.

After a scoreless top of the second the Lions continued to chip away at the lead with another single run. Lindenwood trailed 3-2 after two.

The next three innings neither team could bring anybody across the plate. In the fifth inning the Lions broke through scoring four runs to take the lead. The frame started with Anderson doubling to leftfield and Tarango singling. After a walk to load the bases, Carlos Pianetta drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Another tally came across via a Tellor single. Parra followed the single with a RBI double to close out the scoring in the inning.

Trailing by three in the sixth Central Methodist cut the lead to one after two solo home runs. Moore led off the bottom of the sixth for the Lions and connected on a solo home run of his own to extend the lead back up to two. The Lions held on for the 7-5 win.

Moore, Anderson, Tarango, and Parra all had two hits for the Lions. Parra added two RBIs while Moore, Tarango, Piannetta, and Tellor all had one.

Kraig Petty won his second game of the season pitching three innings in relief. Tarango finished off the game for the Lions throwing the final two innings earning his second save of the year.

 After the Lions two wins the team improves its overall record to 23-13 and its HAAC record to 14-2. The Lions and the Eagles will play again Sunday afternoon at Lou Brock Complex.
