For the first time in 10 games the Lindenwood baseball team lost a HAAC game. Not only did the team lose one but dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Central Methodist Eagles on Sunday afternoon in St. Charles. The Eagles won the first game 3-0 and came from behind to win game two 5-3.
The Eagles broke through in the first inning of game one scoring one run on two hits. Lindenwood threatened to answer in the first with runners on first and second and two outs, but the rally was halted after Crispin Tarango lined out to left field and Zach Loraine grounded out.
Again in the second the Lions threatened but after losing two runners at the plate the score stayed 1-0. After the Eagles survived the second and the third they capitalized on an opportunity and scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead.
From the third inning on Eagles' starter Freddie Cabrera cruised along allowing just two hits and no Lindenwood runner past second base. The Eagles won the contest 3-0. Cabrera won his fourth game of the year surrendering just six hits and striking out six.
Adam Peackock and Mike Moore both had two hits for the Lions. Cory Trudell started on the hill for the Lions and went three and two thirds of an inning giving up three runs and striking out three.
Game two of the day started out with both starting pitchers giving up just two hits combined in the first two and half innings. Finally, in the third inning the Lions put the first dent in the scoreboard. With Moore on third, Anderson hit a double down the left field line to score the game's first run.
The Eagles finally got to Lions' starter Zac Pearman in the sixth inning. With help from a couple of miscues by the Lions, Central Methodist scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead.
Lindenwood did not go away though. In the bottom of the sixth, the Lions cut into the lead scoring two runs to trim the lead to one.
Central Methodist answered back in the seventh scoring a run to add some insurance heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Lindenwood put a runner on in the seventh but could not rally and fell 5-3.
With the two losses the Lions drop their overall record 23-15 and HAAC mark to 16-4. Lindenwood will take a break from conference action and play a pair of nonconference games against Harris-Stowe and McKendree on Tuesday afternoon in St. Charles.
