Men’s water polo clinched the top seed at the upcoming Missouri Valley Division Championship with three wins at the second of two conference cross-over meets in Macomb, Ill. October 13-14.
After stopping Saint Louis University at the first conference cross-over three weeks ago, the Lions again topped the Billikens 19-8 in their first game of the day on Saturday. Southern Illinois was the next opponent for Lindenwood and the Lions easily handled the Salukis 14-3.
Lindenwood faced Washington University in its only game of the day on Sunday. The Bears battled the Lions in the first meeting of the season, but Lindenwood escaped with a four point win. This time, the Lions defense held Washington University in check en route to a 13-7 victory.
With the three wins on the weekend, the Lions finish conference play with a perfect record and will be the number one seed at the Missouri Valley Division Championship October 20-21, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis.
Lindenwood will play two games on Saturday against the number five and number four seeds. The first game of the day will start at 8:50 a.m. with the second scheduled for 4:40 p.m. If the Lions can win both preliminary games, they will play for the championship on Sunday and the automatic berth to the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division 1 Collegiate Club Championship in Corvallis, Ore. beginning on November 9.
