Box Score The Lindenwood baseball team won its first game of the season Sunday afternoon in Valdosta, Ga. The Lions used a strong pitching performance from the separate hurlers in the 10-1 victory.
North Georgia did not take long to dent the scoreboard. The Saints got a run in the top of the first inning but fortunately for the Lions it was the only time North Georgia would score.
Lindenwood answered the single tally with three runs of its own in the bottom of the first. The offense kept the pressure on scoring two more runs in the bottom of the second. With the Lions leading 5-0 after two innings both pitching staffs settled in. Neither team could bring a run across until the bottom of the seventh.
Lindenwood started the inning off back-to-back singles which sparked a five run frame. In the seventh inning, the Lions compiled four hits and scored five runs.
Lindenwood outhit the Saints 12-4 and committed two errors.
Zach Loraine led the way for the Lions at the plate going two-for-five with two RBIs.
Matt Tellor and
Ryan Light also had two hits and two RBIs each.
Three separate Lindenwood pitchers combined for eight innings pitched with five strikeouts and one earned run.
Austin Klein started on the hill and he went five innings and struck out three.
Ryan Griffin came out of the bullpen and threw 3 1/3 innings giving up just one hit while
Steffen Simmons finished the game getting the last two outs.
The win improved the Lions record to 1-2. Up next for Lindenwood is a road game against Arkansas Tech University on Feb. 11.
