Baseball Sweeps Three Games From McKendree

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 After a 24-hour rain delay, the Lindenwood baseball team finally finished off a three-game weekend sweep of the McKendree Bearcats in St. Charles, Mo. The Lions won the rain-delayed game of the series 2-1. The final two games went to Lindenwood 5-0 and 3-2.

The first game of the weekend series started on Saturday afternoon and in the top of the fifth inning the game was suspended due to rain. The two teams continued the game on Sunday afternoon. With the Lions leading 1-0 the Bearcats tied the score in the top of the sixth inning.

The contest was tied heading into the bottom of the seventh. With one out in the seventh, Wade Rothermich doubled to right centerfield and then advanced to third on a groundball. The winning run was now 90 feet away and on a 2-0 pitch, Rothermich scored on a wild pitch.

Rothermich led the way for Lindenwood at the plate going three-for-four with two runs scored. Zac Pearman started on the hill for the Lions and got the no decision after giving up no runs and two hits. Ryan Griffin pitched the final three innings and got his third win of the season.

Game two of the series was all Lindenwood. The Lions scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning and another tally in the sixth. Lindenwood out hit McKendree 10-2 and the Lions committed one error.

Rothermich once again led the way for Lindenwood going four-for-four at the plate and two runs scored. Dylan Terrell started on the mound for the Lions and went all seven innings allowing just two hits and striking out two.

In the final game of the weekend, the Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead after scoring runs in the first and the second. The Bearcats answered back with two runs in the third inning but the game stayed tied for just one inning. Lindenwood scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead 3-2, and held on for the weekend sweep.

Rothermich, Ryan Light, and Mike Wilson all had hits in the game while Jason Striegel drove in a pair of runs. Austin Klein started for the Lions going 4 1/3 innings, striking out five and surrendering just two runs. Griffin pitched the final 2 2/3 of an inning for his fifth save of the year.

After the three wins Lindenwood runs its record to 13-9. Up next for the Lions is three games against Lubbock Christian in Lubbock, Texas.
