Baseball Team Loses Slugfest Against Lubbock Christian

Box Score The Lindenwood Lions and the Lubbock Christian Chaps combined for 27 runs and 26 hits in an offensive slugfest on Sunday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas. Unfortunately for the Lions, the No. 4 ranked team in the NAIA won the battle 17-10.

Lindenwood broke through on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the first inning. The Chaps started the bottom half of the first with three straight hits which resulted in the three runs.  Lubbock Christian took a commanding lead with four runs in the third and three runs in fourth.

With the home team leading 10-1 the Lions cut into the large deficit with four runs in the fifth inning. After scoring four runs in the top half of the inning, the Chaps answered right back with four runs.

Lindenwood scored three runs in the seventh, one run in the eighth, and one more in the ninth. But the Lubbock Christian offense didn't stop either. The Chaps scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to round out their scoring.

Zach Kurzejeski led the Lions offense with two hits, a run scored, and a RBI. Matt Tellor hit his second home run of the season and drove in three runs. Zach Loraine, Jason Striegel, and Daniel Weiman each scored two runs in the contest.

Lindenwood used six different pitchers in the game. Austin Klein got the start for the Lions and went just 2 1/3 innings giving up six earned runs.

After the loss Lindenwood dropped its record to 13-12. Up next for the Lions is a road trip to Plainview, Texas to take on Wayland Baptist.
