Lions Finish the Season Series Against McKendree With a 6-0 Record

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team finished off a season sweep of the McKendree Bearcats on Thursday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo. The Lions won the first game of the day 14-0 and the final game 3-2. Lindenwood ended the year against McKendree with a record of 6-0.

The first game of the day was the conclusion of a game that started last Saturday afternoon at McKendree, but was suspended due to rain. The Lions jumped out to an early lead with a three run inning in the first, capped off by Matt Tellor's first of his two homeruns in the game.

Lindenwood added to the lead with three more runs in the second inning. The fourth inning was another big inning for the Lions. After McKendree got the first two outs of the frame, Lindenwood scored five runs on four hits before the Bearcats could secure the final out. The Lions closed out the scoring with two runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh.

Tellor led the way for Lindenwood at the plate with two hits in three at bats, including two homeruns, and five RBIs. Wade Rothermich chipped in with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Ryan Light, Mike Wilson, Zach Loraine, and Eddie Sutton all had two hits each. Dylan Terrell started on the hill and earned his fifth win of the season after giving up no earned runs and striking out four.

The second game of the day was much closer. Lindenwood got on the scoreboard first with a single run in the second and two more runs in the third. With the Lions leading 3-0, McKendree cut into the lead with runs in the fifth and the sixth. But one run was as close as the Bearcats got.

Light and Wilson led the team with two hits each while Jason Streigel, and Sutton each drove in a run. Austin Klein started the game and went five innings and earned his third win of the year. Ryan Griffin came into the game in the sixth inning and pitched the final two innings to earn his ninth save of the season.

After the two wins, the Lions improved their record to 26-19. Lindenwood will close out the 2012 season with a home and home series against the Truman State Bulldogs starting on Saturday afternoon in St. Charles.
