Men’s water polo opened conference play with a perfect weekend as they picked up four wins in as many chances in the first Missouri Valley Division crossover meet of the season at the St. Peters Rec-Plex September 15-16.
The Lions started with a 14-1 win over Western Illinois Saturday morning. After that initial test and a six hour break, Lindenwood was back in the water to face a tough Saint Louis University squad and came away with a 16-10 victory. The first game of the day Sunday morning pitted the Lions against the Salukis of Southern Illinois. Lindenwood continued its strong play to take the contest 15-4. The final game of the weekend for the Lions proved to be the toughest, but Lindenwood was able to prevail over Washington University 15-11.
The Lions outscored their opponents by a combined total of 60-26 and started play in the Missouri Valley Division with a 4-0 record. The second of two conference crossover meets is set for October 13-14 in Macomb, Ill. The results of the two meets combined will determine seeding for the division championship the following weekend.
Lindenwood takes a break from conference play to travel to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami (Ohio) University Invitational September 22-23. The Lions are scheduled to face Grand Valley State, the tournament host and the University of Illinois-Chicago on Saturday.
