The men’s water polo team won four games over the weekend to extend their winning streak to nine. Lindenwood picked up three wins on Saturday and one on Sunday at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
After topping Grand Valley State 21-4 earlier in the season, the Lions faced them again in their first game of the weekend and won the
rematch over the Lakers 11-2. In what would be a true road contest, Lindenwood next faced the host of the event, Miami (Ohio) University and handled the Redhawks 16-5. The third game of the day for Lindenwood against the University of Illinois-Chicago would prove to be the toughest of the tournament for the Lions. Regulation play wasn’t enough to settle the outcome and the game went to overtime where Lindenwood scored the golden goal for the 10-9 win. The Lions carried that momentum into their only game of the day on Sunday against Penn State. Lindenwood put the finishing touches on a perfect weekend with a 15-10 win over the Nittany Lions.
Despite the one point overtime win, the Lions still outscored their opponents 52-26 to improve to 14-4 on the season. After a three week break, Lindenwood returns to conference play with the second of two Missouri Valley Division (MVD) Crossover events October 13-14 in Macomb, Ill. The Lions are 4-0 in the MVD so far and are scheduled to face Saint Louis University, Southern Illinois University, and Washington University that weekend with seeding for the division championship on the line.
