Cross Country Wraps Up Season in South Dakota

Lindenwood University's cross country team celebrated Senior Day on the road Saturday at the 2013 NCAA Central Region Cross Country Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Two seniors made their final appearance in an LU cross country uniform--Ben McGraw from Florissant, MO and Courtney Heidorn from Freeburg,IL.

Heidorn finished the women's 6,000-meter race at Yankton Trails State Park in 23:41.21. McGraw finished the men's 10,000-meter race in 33:59.40.

Coach Randy Cole was quick to praise the leadership and contributions of McGraw and Heidorn. He was also optimistic about the future, as the youthful Lions showed promise. Freshman Ann Cherotich led her team to its 22nd place finish with a personal best 23:10.01, while sophomore Aaryn Edge logged a 24:20.36.

Cole said Edge's time would also have been a personal best but she lost a shoe and ran about three miles with a bare foot. Freshman Amanda Brisso was right behind Edge with a time of 24:36.02.

Cole was also proud of the work put in by sophomore Travis Staebell, who led the Lions with a 10,000-meter time of 33:53.43. Freshman Nicholas Stewart was right behind Staebell with a time of 34:40.46, while freshman Colin Cernik battled an injury to finish in 39:16.02.
