Cross Country Splits With Truman

The Lindenwood cross country teams opened their 2013 season on Thursday with a home competition against Truman. The men's team defeated the Bulldogs by one point, while the women's team fell to Truman.

In the 4,000m men's race, Lindenwood's depth helped the Lions edge Truman by a score of 27-28. Truman led after the first five runners crossed the finish line but Lindenwood took the next three spots for the victory. Travis Staebell, Lindenwood's No. 5 runner, finished two seconds ahead of Truman's No. 4 runner, which was the difference in the team score.

Individually, Nicholas Stewart led Lindenwood and he finished second overall with a time of 12:48. Brady Novak was fourth overall with a time of 12:52 and Ben McGraw was sixth after finishing in exactly 13 minutes. Colin Cernik was seventh in a time of 13:01 and Staebell's time was 13:07.

In the 4,000m women's race, Truman took five of the top six spots for an 18-43 victory. Lindenwood's Courtney Heidorn was the lone Lady Lion in the top-six as she came in third with a time of 15:36. Amanda Brisso was second on the team and seventh overall with a time of 16:35. Rounding out Lindenwood's squad was Aaryn Edge (17:05), Jennifer Carter (17:10), and Katie Brosamer-Senger (17:12).

Lindenwood will be in action again on Sept. 21 at the First to the Finish Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.
