Lions Drop Two Games to Central Oklahoma

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team lost both games to Central Oklahoma on Saturday.  The Lions dropped game one 8-2 and fell in game two by a 3-1 margin at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions wasted no time putting runs up in game one and it started in the first inning.  Ben Coudret singled to left and Wade Rothermich followed with a walk.  Mike Failoni returned to the lineup after missing some playing time and came through with a single on a hit-and-run to score Coudret and Rothermich moved over to third while Failoni advanced to second on the throw.  Marshall Vallandingham hit a laser up the middle for a single that drove in Rothermich and the Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

Central Oklahoma scored runs in the third and the seventh but the runs came in bulk.  The Bronchos put up five runs in the third inning off four hits and a costly error.  Lindenwood surrendered three runs in the seventh inning on three hits and a throwing error to put the game out of reach as the Bronchos took game one by an 8-2 margin.

Game two started a bit bumpy for the Lions by allowing two runs in the top of the second inning to fall behind quickly.  Central Oklahoma added another run in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 3-0 game.  The Lions could not generate much offense in the second game until the ninth inning.

Vallandingham led off with a single, followed by a Nathan Prindle walk and both runners moved up on a groundout to second base.  Mike Wilson was hit by a pitch and Rothermich hit a sacrifice fly to score Vallandingham and cut the deficit to two runs.  The Lions could not complete the comeback and fell 3-1 in game two.

After today the Lions fall to 15-24 on the year and hold a 12-16 MIAA record.  The Lions will travel to Hays, Kan. to take on Fort Hays State for a four-game series starting at 5 p.m. on Friday night.
