Men’s Water Polo Sweeps Conference Crossover

Men's water polo swept through the first of two Missouri Valley Division Crossover meets with a 4-0 record September 20-21 in Carbondale, Ill.  In doing so, the Lions extended their overall winning streak to 11 straight games to start the 2014 season.
 
In the first game of the day on Saturday, Lindenwood cruised to a 21-1 victory over host school Southern Illinois – Carbondale.  Nine different players scored at least one goal in the contest with Toni Storic and Weston White each posting 4/4 shooting efforts.
 
The Lions faced a tougher test in game two, but still emerged with a 21-9 win over Saint Louis University.  Alberto Duran led the team with four goals and David Alcon was a rock in the net with nine saves.
 
Lindenwood continued to play well in the final game of the day and posted a convincing 21-8 win against Washington University.  Alex Beltrol scored five goals and helped on four others to help pace the Lions offense while Mario Caballero Diaz turned away five shots in goal.
 
In the final game of the meet on Sunday, Lindenwood defeated Western Illinois 20-3.  Duran added six goals to his weekend total along with three assists while Storic scored five times in the contest.  Caballero proved to be a wall at goalie, with nine saves.
 
The Lions started conference play with a 4-0 record and improved to 11-0 for the season.  Lindenwood gets a weekend off before returning to action for two games on the road in Monmouth, Ill., October 4.  The Lions face Salem International at 10:30 a.m., followed by Monmouth College at 12 p.m.
