Cross Country Opens Season with Triangular Meet at Truman State

Lindenwood opened its 2014 season with a triangular meet at Truman State University with Truman State and Missouri S&T in Troy Mills, Mo. Lindenwood's women finished second, while the men finished third.
 
Lindenwood's Lady Lions were given 55 points, finishing with just six less than Missouri S&T, but Truman State finished with a very low 22 points. Hannah Rae Finchamp set the tempo for the whole event by finishing first with an average 6 minute mile and finished with a total time of 14:54, ten seconds in front of the second-place finisher. Lindenwood's second finisher, Carina Bungard (16:02), nearly cracked the top ten by coming in eleventh, followed by sophomore Amanda Brisso (16:23). Aaryn Edge (16:41) was the last Lady Lion to crack the top 15.
 
Lindenwood men's team finished with 52 points, just eight points behind Truman State, and 20 points behind Missouri S&T. The men relied on a consistent finish, with three sophomores finishing consecutively at the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions. Leading the sophomore group was Nicholas Stewart (12:42), followed by Travis Staebell (12:49), and rounding out the group was Colin Cernik (12:50).
 
Coming up next for both teams will be the First to the Finish Southern Stampede on Sept. 20 at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo.
