Women's wrestling finished sixth at the NWCA Mat Meyhem National Duals January 8-9 in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Lady Lions posted a record of 3-2 over the weekend with victories against Life University, Missouri Baptist, and Wayland Baptist.
In the first dual of the weekend, Lindenwood defeated the Running Eagles 35-11. The match went back-and-forth early with Tori Degginger earning a technical fall at 109 pounds and Savanna Nobile winning a 12-7 decision at 123 pounds, but then it was all Lady Lions from there. Axa Molina emerged on top of a 13-7 decision in the 130 pound division, and then Monica Ramirez (136 pounds), Anna McAleavey (143 pounds), Lisa Gonzalez (155 pounds), Victoria Francis (170 pounds), and Gabriela Guzman (191 pounds) all pinned their opponents.
Lindenwood didn't have as much success in its second dual against Oklahoma City University in a 29-10 loss. Only Gonzalez and Francis managed wins in their matches, Gonzalez by a 5-3 decision and Francis by technical fall.
The Lady Lions rebounded from the loss with a 32-11 victory over Missouri Baptist. Once again, things were close early in the dual, but then Lindenwood pulled away with technical falls from Ramirez, Gonzalez, and Francis, and a pin from McAleavey.
The Lady Lions made it two straight by defeating Wayland Baptist 27-14 in the next round. The dual proved to be one of the closer for the weekend and was still tied 13-13 with three matches to go. Degginger tied the dual at four with a 9-2 decision, and Molina and Ramirez did their part with technical fall wins to give Lindenwood a slim lead at the midway point. After a loss that tied the dual late, the Lady Lions won the final three matches including a technical fall from Gonzalez, and pins from Francis and Guzman, to build the final margin.
In the final dual, Lindenwood fell to McKendree 24-16. Only Degginger, Ramirez, and Francis were able to win their matches in the contest.
With the three wins and two losses, the Lady Lions improved to 12-9 in duals for the season. Lindenwood returns to the mat for the Bearcat Open January 22-23 in Lebanon, Ill.
