Game Recap: Football |

Connor Harris Sets NCAA Mark But Football Falls To Fort Hays State

Connor Harris set the NCAA All-Division record for career tackles on Saturday in Hays, Kan., but the Lions football team couldn't celebrate with a victory. The Lions fell to Fort Hays State by a 37-6 margin.

Harris set the record late in the first quarter as he made a touchdown-saving stop on Charles Tigner inside the 10-yard line. The tackle was the 551st of his career, surpassing Boomer Grigsby of Illinois State who previously held the All-Division record with 550. Harris would finish the game with 16 tackles, taking him to 565 for his career.

That was the top highlight for the day for Lindenwood as Fort Hays State jumped out to an early lead, and the Lions struggled moving the ball against one of the top defenses in the nation.

The Lions turned the ball over just once on the day, but the interception led to the first touchdown of the game less than five minutes into the contest. The next time the Tigers touched the ball turned out to be one of the key moments of the game. Lindenwood backed the Tigers up inside their one-yard line, but Fort Hays State went on a 99-yard drive, including a 67-yard pass play, to go up 14-0.

Lindenwood's offense got back to one possession on the next drive. Allen Thigpen threw a perfect pass down the field and hit DeSean Warren in stride. Warren had a step on his defender and was able to outrun him for an 80-yard touchdown.

The next drive saw Harris break the record, but the celebration was short lived as Fort Hays State scored again to lead 21-6 after one quarter. The Tigers added a long field goal in the second quarter and led 24-6 at halftime.

Both defenses took over the game after that field goal. Fort Hays State added two more touchdowns, with one late in the third quarter and one in the final minute of the game.

Fort Hays State limited the Lions to just 244 yards of total offense, including 56 rushing yards on 33 attempts. The Tigers ended up with 477 yards of offense, including 292 through the air and 185 rushing.

Lindenwood's defense had nine tackles for loss and three sacks in the game. Nick Granberry had three tackles for loss and two sacks. Jonathan Harris also had a sack and Antron Watts had two tackles for loss. Clint Koons was second on the team in tackles with nine, and Bakari Triggs and Wesley Thomas both had eight.

Thigpen completed 12-of-19 passes for 140 yards and the one touchdown. Alex Faddoul came in the game in the third quarter and threw for 48 yards, and also rushed for a team-high 55 yards. Kendell Sparks caught eight passes, and DeSean Warren paced the offense with 90 receiving yards.
