Football Celebrates Senior Day On Saturday Versus Missouri Southern

Storylines
- The Lindenwood football team has its final home game of 2016 this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Missouri Southern. The game will be Senior Day, as the program will celebrate its 19 seniors.

- Lindenwood is looking to build momentum at the end of the season after snapping its losing streak last weekend with a 35-14 win over Nebraska-Kearney. The defense went 53 minutes at one point without allowing a point, and it intercepted five passes in the game. The offense took advantage of the turnovers to score 28 unanswered points in the second quarter, which led it to the victory.

- Missouri Southern also picked up its second victory of the season last week with a 45-33 win over Northeastern State. It has scored over 40 points in back-to-back weeks after making a quarterback switch in week eight of the season.

- Lindenwood leads the all-time series with Missouri Southern by a 2-1 margin, including a 1-1 edge in games played at Hunter Stadium.

- Last season, Lindenwood defeated Missouri Southern by a 34-30 score in Joplin, Mo. Lindenwood never led in the contest until Lavorrie Johnson scored on a 56-yard pass play with 4:03 remaining in the game. Lindenwood's defense, which forced five turnovers on the day, had three sacks in Missouri Southern's final 11 plays to seal the win.

- Lindenwood's offense is averaging over 10 points more a game this season than 2015. A big reason is the running game, as Lindenwood has six games with 150 or more rushing yards, and three games with 200 or more yards on the ground. Lindenwood will be going against a Missouri Southern defense that is allowing 252.2 rushing yards a game.

- Among the 19 seniors that will be playing their final game at Hunter Stadium, nine are offensive players, nine are defensive players, and one is a special teams player. The 19 players have played a combined 446 games, including 40 or more games from Connor Harris, Deshaun Lawson, and Roderick Ryles.

Lions Offense
- Lindenwood ranks ninth in the MIAA in scoring offense (26.4), and it is 11th in the MIAA in total offense (351.7).

- Wide receiver Kendell Sparks leads the MIAA with 6.4 receptions per game. He has 58 receptions on the season, tied for third in program history for a season and nine behind the school record.

- Deantrell Prince leads the team with seven touchdowns this year, all on receiving scores. The seven receiving touchdowns is the most by a Lion since the 2012 season. He needs one more to move into the school's top-10 list.

- Running back Calen Campbell returned to action last week and had his second 100-yard rushing game of the season with 143 yards. One of his runs was for 59 yards, the longest rush by a Lindenwood running back since Denodus O'Bryant had a 79-yard run against Truman State in 2012.

- The Lions have been taking care of the ball, turning it over just three times in the last five games. Lindenwood's quarterbacks have thrown just one interception in their last 127 pass attempts.

Lions Defense
- Lindenwood's defense ranks seventh in the MIAA in scoring defense (35.0), and 10th in total defense (483.2).

- Bakari Triggs had two interceptions last weekend. His five interceptions this year tie for the fourth most in school history for a single season, and his 123 interception return yards are the third most at Lindenwood. As a team, Lindenwood had five interceptions, the seventh time in school history it had five or more picks.
- Connor Harris had an interception return touchdown last week, the team's fourth defensive touchdown of the season. The four defensive touchdowns tie for the most in the MIAA this year, and only six NCAA Division II teams have scored more. The last time Lindenwood has scored four defensive touchdowns in a season was in 2011.

- Bakari Triggs leads NCAA Division II with 2.4 passes defended a game. He now has 14 pass breakups on the season, tenth-most in MIAA history.

- Wesley Thomas hit the 200-tackle milestone last weekend. The Lions have four current players with 200 or more career tackles: Connor Harris (608), Roderick Ryles (261), Clint Koons (244), and Thomas (200).

Lions Special Teams
- Kendell Sparks needs 38 kickoff return yards to break the school record for most kickoff return yards in a season. He currently has 440 yards. His average of 29.3 yards a return ranks third in the MIAA.

- Allen Thigpen is 28th in NCAA Division II with a 40.7 punting average. He has punted 45 times on the season. He has nine punts inside the 20 yard line, and just two touchbacks.

- Connor Harris took over placekicking duties last week and was five-of-five on PATs.

Team Notes
- Lindenwood is 69-4 in the Patrick Ross era when scoring over 30 points, and 75-18 when holding opponents under that mark.

- The Lions will have their final game of the season on Nov. 12 at nationally-ranked Central Missouri. Kickoff for that game will be 1:30 p.m.
