The Lindenwood women's tennis team needed a comeback win in singles to take down Southern Indiana on Saturday, giving it a 5-4 victory. It was the Lady Lions' first match of the spring.
The Lady Lions started off with doubles and nearly pulled off all three matches. No. 1 and No. 2 doubles were nail-biters, but Southern Indiana came out on top by a final score of 8-6 for both matches. At No. 3 doubles,
Diana Castro and
Alexandra Medvedeva dominated with an 8-2 victory to give the Lady Lions room for air heading into singles.
Anna Barbasheva handled her opponent solidly behind a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. At No. 2,
Gloria Marras battled in a three-set match, winning the first set 6-4 and losing the second set 6-2. Marras traded games throughout the third set, but fell just short 7-5. Castro followed up her doubles win with a victory at No. 4 singles by a score of 7-5, 6-4.
Rebeca Aguilar won easily at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-0 final.
The match was tied at 4 matches apiece when
Daria Ivanova was down 5-2 in the third set of the tie-breaking match. She stormed back by winning five games in a row to give the Lady Lions the victory.
