The Lindenwood men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up its final day at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. on Saturday evening.
Day OneAlecia McGillivray won the prelims in the 1000 free with
Kyleigh Troxel posting the third-best time, but they both dropped down a couple places to finish third and fifth, respectively. McGillivray finished with a time of 9:57.76 while Troxel touched the wall at 9:59.45. In finishing in the top five, both earn All-American status. McGillivray has been an All-American each year she's been at Lindenwood. Troxel is an All-American for the first time since 2013-14.
For the men, freshman
Cristian Vasquez earned All-American status after a seventh place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 9:13.23.
Gustavo Silva Santa and
Sylwester Borowicz-Skoneczny placed 12th and 16th, respectively, to both be named as an honorable mention. Borowicz-Skoneczny was an All-American in the event a year ago with a third place finish, while Silva Santa placed seventh last season.
Serghei Golban set a national record in the 50 free when he won the event at 19.35 seconds, .04 seconds better than the previous high. Golban earns All-American status for the second straight year in the 50 free after placing second a year ago.
The men's 200 medley relay finished second, finishing .01 second behind the winners from Florida Southern.
Krzysztof Jankiewicz,
Mateusz Pacholczyk, Michal Szczukowski, and Golban pulled in 34 points for the men's team.
Felix Eigel is an honorable mention after placing 11th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:48.32. Two seasons ago, Eigel placed 21st in the event.
Shelby Werkema is an All-American after finishing eighth in the 3m dive for the women. Her 434.90 earned 11 points for the team, this is Werkema's first time being named an All-American.
After day one, the women are in ninth with 42 points. The men are behind first-place Queen by 2.5 points as they sit at 77.5.
Day TwoThe women kicked off day two with the 200 free relay with a 12th-place finish.
Kinga Lesinska,
Bethany Steffes,
Kate Stauffer, and
Niki Dahl finished with a time of 1:34.29. A year ago, this group besides freshman Stauffer, were All-Americans in this event. This year's 12th-place finish earns the individuals an honorable mention.
McGillivray placed in the top eight once again on day two with a fifth-place finish in the 400 IM. Her time of 4:21.03 was nearly a second better than her preliminary time Thursday morning, and good for fifth overall.
Elise DaFabio,
Ewa Dymarek,
Hannah Vinyard, and Steffes also finished 12th in the 400 medley with a time of 3:49.01. This is DaFabio's first trip to nationals, and earns an honorable mention mark, as Dymarek, Vinyard, and Steffes were All-Americans a year ago in the event.
For the men, Golban,
Ross Watson,
Michael Szczukowski, and
Jared Thornton earned third place in the 200 free relay. Golban added another All-American honor for 2016, while Szczukowski was also part of the relay who finished second a year ago. This is Watson and Thornton's first All-American honor.
Golban, Szczukowski, Jankiewicz, and Pacholczyk placed fourth in the 400 medley with a time of 3:10.84, less than a second and a half behind winner Florida Southern. This comes a day after finishing .01 seconds behind Florida Southern in the 200 medley on Wednesday to place second.
Jankiewicz also placed fifth in the 100 fly with a time of 47.53 seconds. The sophomore was also an All-American in the 100 back and 200 back in 2015.
Vasquez and Eigel finished second and seventh, respectively, in the 400 IM. Vasquez was named an All-American on Wednesday after a seventh-place finish in the 1000 free. Eigel improves to an All-American after his honorable mention performance in the 200 IM yesterday.
After day two, the men sat in second place with 192.5 points, behind Queens (N.C.) with 203. The women have dropped to 10th place with 76 points.
Day ThreeMcGillivray and Troxel performed in the 500 free to start the night off. McGillivray recorded the third-fastest time in overall in the finals, but because of where she finished in the preliminaries she placed ninth overall with a time of 4:52.60. Troxel finished at 4:55.95 in the finals, good for 11th place.
Vinyard became an All-American in 2016 when she finished fifth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.50. She earned 14 points for the team, and took more than a second off her time she recorded in the preliminaries.
Vinyard, McGillivray, Steffes, and
Morgan Fischer placed 14th in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:35.47. This is Fischer's first national event, and earns honorable mention.
Carleen Wayne is an All-American for the first time in her career as she finished fourth in the 1m dive. Her score 462.95 was only .7 away from the third-place finisher.
Serghei Golban won another event at nationals on day three with a time of 46.56 seconds in the 100 back. A year ago he placed fifth. This is Golban's second event he's won this year in Indianapolis as he took first place in the 50 free while also setting a national record. Jankiewicz placed 10th in the event. He won the 100 back in 2015.
Silva Santa finished 11th in the 500 free, earning honorable mention. The Portugal-native was an All-American a year ago in the event.
Pacholczyk was just outside All-American status in the 100 breast as he finished ninth with a time of 53.71 seconds, an improvement from his preliminary time.
Vasquez recorded a time of 1:47.45 in the 200 fly, and is now an All-American in another event after earning it in the 1000 free and 400 IM the past two days.
In the last event of the day, the men's 800 free relay placed 10th. Their time of 6:35.41 was less than 12 seconds of first-place finisher Queens (N.C.), who still holds the lead as a team after the third day of competition.
After three days, the men's team is still in second place with 262.5 points, while Queens (N.C.) holds a 54.5 point lead. Lindenwood's women have moved back up to ninth place with 129 points.
Day FourMcGillivray and Troxel got the day started with a third and fourth-place finish in the 1650 free for Lindenwood. McGillivray's time of 16:42.08 was only two and a half seconds behind the second-place finisher. Troxel ended the race just eight seconds behind her teammate.
The Lindenwood men also saw success in the 1650 free as Vasquez placed second with a time of 15:20.66. Silva Santa also finished in the top eight with a time of 15:34.61, good enough for All-American honors for the event.
Golban won his third national title on Saturday when he placed first in the 100 free with a time of 42.96 seconds. A year ago, Golban placed fifth in the event in Indianapolis.
Eigel placed sixth in the 200 back with a time of 1:46.60, and is an All-American for the event. Jankiewicz is an honorable mention in the event after he finished the event in 1:45.99.
Pacholczyk added another All-American performance for the men as he placed fifth in the 200 breast with a time of 1:56.43. A year ago, Pacholczyk finished fifth in the event.
Schyler Hohenberger is an All-American after a fifth-place effort in the 3m dive with a score 539.05. This is Hohenberger's first All-American honors with Lindenwood, and comes during his senior campaign.
Lesinska, Steffes, Stauffes, and Vinyard earned a 14th-place finish in the 400 free relay. On the men's side, Szczukowski, Martin, Watson, and Golban finished seventh in the event with a time of 2:58.95.
After the event concluded, the men's team finished with 382.5 points and a second-place finish. Queens (N.C.) won nationals as a team with 449 points. The women recorded 166 points, good for a ninth-place finish as a team.
