A year after winning the regular season and conference championship, the Lindenwood field hockey team has been chosen by the coaches to finish atop the ECAC once again in 2017.
Lindenwood received three first-place votes and totaled 32 points to edge out Bellarmine (31). Limestone received one first-place tally en route to having 26 points. Belmont Abbey, Mercy, and Newberry round out the six teams vying for a conference championship.
Head coach
Sarah Johnson returns a host of players, including ECAC Defensive Player of the Year
Nicole Johnston and ECAC co-Goalie of the Year
Skylar Starbeck. Johnston led the conference with seven assists, and added three goals. Starbeck led the ECAC with a 1.28 goals against average, and made a career-high nine saves in each victory against Bellarmine.
Greta Banholzer returns for her senior season after earning ECAC first-team honors with seven goals and five assists.
Caro Theunisz was also a first-team member, totaling two assists from the midfield.
Johnson will begin her seventh season as the field hockey head coach, and has accumulated 36 wins over the past three campaigns after only winning 20 contests in the first three years. Last season's 16 wins is a program record and was the first time the Lions won the ECAC championship.
Lindenwood will begin its season September 1 against Indiana University of Pennsylvania from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles.
