The Lindenwood men's and women's tennis teams concluded a busy weekend in Springfield, Mo. on Sunday with dual matches against Drury. The Lindenwood's women's team was defeated 8-1 by Drury, the No. 12-ranked team in the nation. On the men's side, the Lions were dealt a 7-2 defeat by Drury, the nation's No. 13 squad.
Laura Castro Milan registered the women's lone victory of the day, picking up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles. The women's team moves to 1-4 on the season with the dual loss.
Michele Gaspari and
Theo Butaeye registered the men's two victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Both Gaspari and Butaeye required three sets to post their wins. The Lion men move to 3-3 on the season in dual action.
"This weekend was a very tough and valuable experience for both teams," said Lindenwood head coach
Nicolai Nonnenbroich. "We now have a clear picture of our potential and where we need to make significant improvements to be successful. Today was the most consistent team effort of the season. We are going to continue to raise our expectations both individually and as a team."
The men's team will have its next dual match on February 28 at Maryville, while the women's team will return to action on March 7 in Springfield, Ill. during a dual match at Illinois-Springfield.
