Men’s Water Polo Sweeps Conference Weekend

Men's water polo swept all four games played in the second weekend of play in the Missouri Valley Division September 28-29 at the Simon Recreation Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Lions defeated Washington University 21-4 and Missouri S & T 19-6 on Saturday, then stopped the University of Missouri 17-4 and McKendree University 14-7 on Sunday.

Mateo Lema was one of the standouts on offense in the games against the Bears and Bearcats, totaling nine goals.  Marc Tahull scored six markers in the two contests, while Marino Chorro and Darnell Martin each tallied five goals.  Tahull led the team in assists with seven, followed by Lema with six.  Tahull was also a force on defense in the two games with 14 steals.  Guillermo Aguirre was next in line with eight takeaways. 

With each of the four games in Lindenwood control early, Head Coach Dave Miller was able to play everyone over the course of the weekend.

With the four wins, the Lions improved to 15-6 overall and 8-0 in the Missouri Valley Division, the ninth straight year that Lindenwood went undefeated in regular season conference play.

The Lions will enter the Missouri Valley Division Championship Tournament as the No. 1 seed October 12-13 at Millstone Pool in the Sumer Rec Center in St. Louis.  Lindenwood will play No. 5 seed Missouri on Saturday at 10 a.m. and No. 4 seed McKendree later that evening at 6:30 p.m.  The outcome of those two games will determine match-ups on Sunday.

In other action, the Lions B squad also went undefeated in four Missouri Valley Division contests, stopping Missouri 21-5 and McKendree 9-5 on Saturday, and defeating Washington University 16-8 and Saint Louis University in an exhibition game 10-2 on Sunday.

The Lindenwood B squad finished the conference regular season at 6-1 and will enter the Missouri Valley Division Championship as the No. 2 seed.  The Lions are scheduled to face No. 6 seed Missouri S & T at 11:15 a.m. and No. 3 Seed Washington University at 7:45 p.m. on October 12.
