Women's wrestling was stopped by Emmanuel College 31-15 in a dual Thursday night at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. The Lions earned two outright victories and a forfeit across 10 weight classes.
Making her Lindenwood debut at 101 lbs.,
Shania Melendez earned the first takedown of her match, but was caught in a scramble later and eventually pinned at 1:39 by Iesha Washington from the EC Lions.
After Emmanuel received a forfeit at 109 lbs.,
Angelique Terrones-Cruz scored a technical superiority for the Lions at 2:49 of the first period against Britney Lamey in the 116 lb. division. That made it 10-4 Emmanuel at the time.
In the 123 lb. class, Emily Sie earned an 8-5 decision over
Jasmine Ward from Lindenwood. Despite the loss, the Lions did earn a point and only trailed 13-5, but the next two matches went to Emmanuel.
Niya Teresita Gaines pinned
Alexis Altamira in the 130 lb. match at 2:43, and Sadie Tackett won by technical superiority over
Rachel Koolstra in the 136 lb. division.
Wrestling at 143 lbs.,
Belle Erhardt stopped the run when she pinned Ophelia Lara at 1:43, but the EC Lions took the momentum right back when Daniela Ramirez scored a technical superiority over
Kiersten Noonan in 3:45 in the 155 lb. match.
After the Lions received a forfeit in the 170 lb. class, senior
Kenya Henderson took a 9-0 lead over Elvira Arevalo in the 191 lb. division, but the tables were turned when Arevalo was able to pin Henderson at 3:45.
Women's wrestling travels to Naperville, Illinois for the North Central College Invite December 7. Competition begins at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
