SEASON REVIEW
Lindenwood field hockey finished the 2019 season with an 11-7 record, marking the program's sixth-consecutive season with double-digit victories. The 2019 season was the Lions' second season as independents, with no conference affiliation. The team faced off against three top-10 ranked opponents, including a win over No. 3 Saint Anselm, 3-1. Protecting home field was a priority for the team, as they finished a pristine 4-0 within the friendly confines of Hunter Stadium in 2019.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Lions picked up their first win of the season with an exciting 2-1 victory over Mercy on the road. Heading into the fourth quarter tied at 1-1,
Lauren Roberts deflected a
Bridget Hoogendijk shot to give the Lions the lead, ultimately securing them the win over the Mavericks.
With wins in their next two games over Frostburg State, 3-1, and Limestone, 3-2, the Lions began the season 3-1, with a 2-0 mark at home. Against Limestone, in a thriller that required two overtime periods,
Pauline Terwindt fired a shot past the goalie to walk it off for Lindenwood and give the team its third-straight victory.
On October 6, the Lions faced off against No. 3 Saint Anselm on the road, coming away with an upset win, 3-1. After trailing 0-1 early in the game, Hoogendijk tied the game up, 1-1, on an assist from
Mary Clare Banholzer, which was the first goal allowed on the season by Saint Anselm. Entering the game, Saint Anselm was riding a 559-minute scoreless streak, which was halted by the Lions early in the matchup.
Allie Hosto and Terwindt scored the final two goals of the game for the Lions as they escaped Manchester with a season-defining victory.
The Lions picked up back-to-back wins while playing in Louisville over Belmont Abbey, 3-0, and at Bellarmine, 4-3. The team's shutout win against Belmont Abbey was the first shutout victory for the Lions in the 2019 season. After two scoreless overtime periods against Bellarmine, Lindenwood won in a shootout on successful attempts by
Caro Theunisz,
Izzy Folan, and Terwindt, while
Mackenzie Litterst prevented three of four shootout attempts.
Lindenwood closed out the season with a 4-3 victory over Frostburg State, as the Lions went 3-0 against the Bobcats during the 2019 season.
Jessie Londono scored a pair of goals for the team, while
Megan Martin and Terwindt added a goal for the Lions, as the held on for their 11th win on the campaign.

"The 2019 season was a year of rebuilding and growth in many ways, but also one in which we had some incredible successes," said Head Coach
Sarah Baumann. "Our seniors took on new leadership roles and even stepped into new positions on the field to help our team find success; our underclassmen contributed a ton on the field for us, including our three true freshmen who saw a great deal of playing time."

- Hoogendijk scored 37 points during the 2019 season, which was the fourth-most in a single-season in program history.
- Hoogendijk also ranked fourth in team history with 2.18 points per game during the season, and her 16 goals were good for third in a single-season. Her 0.94 goals per game average was third in team history for a single-season.
- Hoogendijk became the program's all-time scoring leader during the season.
- Hoogendijk scored a career-high seven points at Seton Hill on Oct. 25, tying her for the most points in a single-game in program history.
- Litterst picked up 11 wins in the net for Lindenwood, which was the second-most in team history.
- Litterst recorded a .761 save percentage, which was good for fourth-best in a single-season in team history. Her 1.50 goals against average ranked third for a single-season in the program's history.
- The Lions were top-10 in the NCAA in assists per game, with 1.61 per game.
