Women's ACHA hockey edged Minot State 3-2 on a power play goal with just 2.5 seconds remaining in regulation Sunday afternoon at Pepsis Ice Rink in Minot, North Dakota.
In a very chippy game that included 60 minutes of combined penalties, the Beavers scored first with the man-advantage at the 1:23 mark after the Lions were called for too many on the ice just moments into the game.

the Game-Winner with 2.5 Seconds Remaining
Minot State held a 1-0 lead through the rest of the opening period and into the second until Lindenwood tied things with the only even-strength goal of the game at 4:24.
Hallie Fisher and
MacKenzie Drost set up
Kennedy Frank for the equalizer. The Lions took a 2-1 lead midway through the period on a five-on-three power play created by simultaneous body checking and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties called against the Beavers.
Michaela Read and
Tessa O'Connor maneuvered the puck through the defense and found
Dakota McAlpine who put it into the net at 8:46, but the intensity of the contest continued to escalate, leading to a pair of minor calls against Lindenwood in a span of 11-seconds. Minot State capitalized on the two-man advantage at 16:05 to tie the game 2-2, and that's how the second period ended on the scoreboard.
The physical play continued in the third, what proved to be the most penalty-filled period of the contest. The Lions found themselves short-handed in the first three minutes. They were killing off the transgression when a key moment occurred. The Beavers were called for a five-minute tripping infraction and a game misconduct, while Lindenwood took a two-minute roughing penalty at the 4:05 mark. That created a four-on-three chance for Minot State, that turned into a four-on-four, and eventually a Lions power play, but neither team scored.
As the final frame counted down, Lindenwood and the Beavers each took two more minors, but it was the final Minot State penalty that made the difference. A checking from behind call with 61-seconds remaining in regulation gave the Lions a power play. Read split the pipes off a nice pass from
Lindsay Gillis with just 2.5 seconds left to give Lindenwood the win and the series sweep.
Officially, both the Lions and Beavers went 2-for-11 on power play opportunities with Minot State called for 38 penalty minutes and Lindenwood 22. The Lions outshot the Beavers 27 to 22, with
Emily McDonald stopping 20 of the 22 shots she faced to earn the victory in goal. Lindenwood improved to 9-1-0 overall and to 6-1-0 in the Women's Midwest College Hockey conference.
After braving the sub-zero temperatures of North Dakota, the Lions return to home ice for three games February 19-21. They host Liberty University Friday night at 9 p.m., then entertain Midland University Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2:40 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
