Women's wrestling fell to No. 4 ranked Colorado Mesa 33-6 Saturday night at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
Four Lions earned points for Lindenwood on the night. After neither team fielded a wrestler at 101 pounds,
Valerie Mamleeva lost a 10-4 decision to Jennesis Martinez at 109 pounds, but earned one point for the Lions. In the 116-pound match,
Amanda McAleavey earned a point for Lindenwood despite losing a 12-1 decision. The next four matches all went the way of the Mavericks as they built a 25-2 advantage.
In the 155-pound match,
Julianna Moreno fell to Zoe Gress in a 12-4 decision to earn a point for Lindenwood, then
Valerie Gaytan defeated Kayla Munoz 8-0 in the 170-pound match to give the Lions another three points. The final match of the duel went to Colorado Mesa by pin.
Of the nine wrestlers that the Mavericks put on the mat, six came in ranked in the top eight nationally at their weight class.
Prior to the duel, Lindenwood honored its seniors,
Alexis Altamira and
Mia Dow.
The Lions have been placed in the Southwest Regional which is scheduled for February 21 at the McKendree Rec-Plex in Lebanon, Illinois.
