Men's Hockey Closes Out Calendar Year Against Vermont

The Lindenwood men's hockey team (4-12-0) travels to Burlington, Vt. to take on the University of Vermont Catamounts (6-11-1, 2-10-0 Hockey East) in a two-game set, beginning Friday, December 30 at 6:00 p.m. CT, while puck drop on Saturday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT.
 
The Lions dropped both games of its most recent series against top-ranked and defending national champion University of Denver. After falling in the series opener 5-0, the Lions kept it close in the finale, as the score was tied 4-4 with five minutes to go in the third period, but Lindenwood ultimately fell 5-4.
 
In game two, nine Lindenwood players registered points, with three players recording multi-point efforts. One of those players was Hunter Johannes who recorded one goal and one assist. The Eden Prairie, Minn. native leads the team with eight goals on the year.
 
Cade DeStefani continued his strong play against Denver, recording two goals in the series finale, bringing his season total up to four. The Freshman forward has compiled points in six out of his last eight games and he joins a group of five Lindenwood players with four or more goals so far this season.
 
All three goalies continue to share time between the pipes, with each making at least four starts this season. Trent Burnham stopped 41 shots in game two, as he has stopped 40 or more shots in three-consecutive starts and five times overall. Burnham leads the team with a .908 save percentage this season. Roni Salmenkangas made 29 saves in game one as he paces Lindenwood netminders with 4.00 goals against average.
 
Vermont has compiled a record of 6-11-1 so far this season and are coming off a 5-1 win over Dartmouth in its most recent game.  Five of the six wins by the catamounts have come on home ice, while Lindenwood has earned three out of its four victories on the road.
