Summit League Adds Lindenwood Programs

On Wednesday, the Summit League announced the addition of Lindenwood men's soccer, along with the men's and women's swimming and diving programs to the conference starting in the 2022-23 school year.

The announcement also included the addition of the Southern Indiana's programs to the league as well.

"Both of these institutions are making the transition to the Division I level and we are happy to provide a home for their men's soccer and both of their swimming and diving programs during their first year of that process," Fenton said. "The addition of members in these sports will add to the student-athlete experience for student-athletes at each respective institution and across the Summit League."

The Lindenwood men's soccer program has posted a record of 56-36-13 since joining an NCAA conference in 2012.  The Lions won the 2013 NCAA Division II Central Regional Championship, as they claimed their second-consecutive MIAA Regular Season and Tournament Championships in that same year.  In total, Lindenwood has won three regular-season conference titles with a pair of conference tournament titles since moving to an NCAA Division II conference.

A total of 22 NCAA all-region players, and six All-Americans have played for the Lions.  Lindenwood has garnered Region Player of the Year and MIAA Player of the Year honors two times each.  The Lions have compiled 45 all-conference selections in the past 10 seasons.  Head coach Carl Hutter was honored as the Region Coach of the Year in 2013, while he and his assistant coaches earned Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2016 and 2017.

The Lindenwood swimming and diving program has produced exceptional success since becoming a full-time member of the NCAA during the 2013-14 school year.  The women's squad has claimed four conference titles, including three-straight from 2016-19.  In 2020-21, the women's team secured its best finish at the NCAA Championships by taking fourth place.  The men's program collected three conference championships, and earned a second-place finish at the 2015-16 National Championships.

A total of five swimming and diving student-athletes have won an individual national crown. Serghei Golban accumulated four titles during his time with the Lions, as he won three different individual nationals championships in 2016. Jerry Brown is the most-recent Lions to earn an individual title, as he won the 100 breast stroke at the 2021 NCAA National Championships.

"We have loved our time in the GLVC and will always be grateful to them for being great hosts.  As we move ahead, we are excited to begin a new era in the Summit League.  We feel fortunate to have the opportunity to compete immediately at the Division 1 level and make an impact in our first season."
