Both the men's and women's bowling teams earned top 20 finishes at the Kegel ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic January 14-15 in Addison, Illinois, outside Chicago. The Lady Lions took 16
th in a field of 62 teams while the Lions took 18
th in the field of 71 teams.
The Lady Lions had a strong start on Saturday in a five-game team block. After shooting 1,047 and 979 in games two and three, they led the B squad, but game four undid much of that success. Lindenwood rebounded with 909 to finish in 10
th place with a day-one total of 4,662, just 100 pins behind St. Francis (Ill.) University in fifth place.
The Lady Lions started well again during baker play on Sunday with four-game sets of 743 and 779 out of the gate including four games in the 200's with a high of 237, but the final 12 games (three sets) fell off the pace with only two in the 200's and almost half under the 180 mark. Lindenwood finished with 3,561 (178.05 average) in baker play and an overall total of 8,223. Pikeville won the tournament title with a total of 8,884.
The Lions took the opposite path as they started slowly in team competition on Saturday, but they finished with games of 1,093; 1,058; and 1,047 to climb up the standings to a tie for 17
th. With a total of 5,034, Lindenwood sat 230 pins behind Purdue in fifth place.
The Lions struggled to maintain a consistent pace during the first three sets of baker competition on Sunday. While they broke 200 six out of the 12 games, including highs of 235 and 224, none of their sets were above 800. After slipping several spots in the standings, Lindenwood finished well with six out of the final eight games in the 200's including highs of 248 and 242. Final sets of 859 and 845 gave the Lions a baker total of 4,053 (202.65 average) and an overall total of 9,087. SCAD – Savannah earned the tournament title with a total of 9,823.
Individually,
Liz Rittenour led the Lady Lions with a total of 1,003 (200.6 average) to finish in 22
nd in a field of 393 bowlers.
Haylie Frick totaled 965 (193 average), including a team high game of 242, to take 47
th, and
Hailey Bozych finished in 52
nd place with 960 (192 average).
Emmanuel McPherson led the Lions with a total of 1,093 (218.6 average), including a high game of 266, which was good enough to take 32
nd in the field of 469 bowlers.
Drew Sacks shot a team high game of 290 and totaled 1,058 (211.6 average) to finish 54
th.
Mike Anderson averaged 217 for four games, including a high of 269, to help the Lindenwood cause.
The bowling teams travel to Louisville, Kentucky for back-to-back one-day events January 21-22. The MSC Lynne Jordan Memorial takes place on Saturday with the MSC Thomas Burris Memorial on Sunday.
