Both the men's and women's bowling teams finished 13
th at the 52
nd Annual Midwest Collegiate Championships October 7-8 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The tier one "major" event featured six team games on Saturday and 16 baker games on Sunday before the top eight advanced to best-of-three match play.
The Lions started the tournament with a solid 1,005 in game one, but that was only good enough for 16
th place in the field of 47 teams. Some struggles ensued in games two and three and Lindenwood dropped down to 25
th before rallying with games of 1,054, 1,021, and 1,010 for a day one total of 5,943, which launched the Lions up to 13
th place.
Lindenwood started slowly on Sunday despite another high scoring environment. An opening baker set of 774 was followed by 725 in the second set. The Lions fell back to 18
th place as a result, but once again, rallied with six of the final eight games in the 200's, including highs of 264 and 256. They posted final sets of 909 and 834 to finish with a baker total of 3,242 (202.625 average) and a grand total of 9,185 to take 13
th place, ultimately missing the top-eight cut by just 119 pins.
In women's competition, the Lady Lions had two completely different days. A rough Saturday was followed by one of the top performances in the field of 35 teams on Sunday.
Lindenwood posted its lowest team score of the event in game one and sat in 25
th place. Inconsistency plagued the Lady Lions all day, but they posted their high of 905 in game six for a Saturday total of 5,206, which moved them up to 19
th place.
A completely different team showed up on Sunday. After an opening baker game of 174, Lindenwood followed with 245, the high game of the day, and finished the set with 186 and 190, good enough for an 795 total. The Lady Lions started the second set with 230 and then shot 177 or higher in 10 of the final 11 games for a baker total of 3,049 (190.56 average) and a grand total of 8,255 for a 13
th place finish. After going into the final day 371 pins out of the cut, Lindenwood made up almost 200 pins and only missed by 183.
