The Lindenwood men's ice team opened their home season campaign with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Vikings of Augustana University at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Augustana was able to break the ice, scoring the first goal at 5:24, when Callum Gau was able to able to redirect the pass from Simon Falk. Exactly five minutes later, Cade DeStefani took a pass from Ethan Zielke during a faceoff to even the score at one. At the 15:00 mark, Arnaud Vachon managed to slip past the Lions' defenses to take the Vikings up by one.
The second period consisted of speed, agility and blazing talent displayed by Lindenwood, therefore it's only fitting that Caige Sterzer would take a pass from Adam Conquest and Mitch Allard at 17:09 to tie the match once again. The Vikings responded with a goal at 18:54 (Luke Mobley) to lift the Vikings up by one. At 9:35 of the third, Caleb Price nailed a sweet goal on a pass from Brenden Rons and Jake Southgate.
Mobley managed to slip through the Lions defensive stance to score the game winning goal in overtime, 55 seconds into the period.
"Unfortunately, we came up short in OT. I was very pleased with our overall performance," said Head Coach Rick Zombo.
Lindenwood and Augustana will wrap up their series on Saturday, November 11th. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:10 pm at the Centene Community Ice Center.
